Mateo Carta nasce nel 1990 nel comume di San Gavino Monreale. Temperamento curioso, da “piccola peste” che riesce a fermarsi solo nei momenti in cui insieme ai genitori e specialmente al padre, può condividere la visione di documentari storici e naturalistici che appagano la sua curiosità verso la natura in generale e l’essere umano nella sua diversità comportamentale e culturale. Il primo approccio alla fotografia avviene quando il padre acquista la prima fotocamera essa gli permette di esplorarne e coglierne le infinite potenzialità. Fotografare, realizzare immagini diventa la sua passione. Alcuni anni dopo si immergerà appieno nel mondo della fotografia, che lo condurrà in viaggio attraverso immagini e umanità.
